First mods
I swore I wasn't going to made any mods to my '07 until I put a few hundred miles on it, theory being that it would be easier to recognize improvement once I knew where the baseline was. This resolution lasted all of 10 days until a friend dumped it in my driveway and revealed the stock hand guards for what they are - breakable bug guards. After ordering a replacement clutch lever from the local Kawi dealer to replace the scimitar I now have to shift with (see photo) I decided to order some real guards.
Thanks to you good folks here at KF who have gone before me it was pretty easy to find previous discussions on the subject and even found a link to Rocky Mountain ATV where I bought a pair of D-Flex guards that will go on shortly. Now the next time it gets dumped (just being a realist here, it is a dirt bike after all) my levers will have a fighting chance. Next thing you know I'll be looking at after market pipes and sprockets....... Power is good.
Thanks again to all who took the time to spread their knowledge.

RE: First mods
Hey Jeff, I think the very first mod anyone should do on these bikes has nothing to do with power out. Hand guards! Hand guards! Hand guards! Then a 13 tooth front gear. Love the picture, is that your daughter? The folded arms are priceless. Peace man.

RE: First mods
Yeah deej, that's Little Miss Hell on Wheels herself, my 9 year old daughter Alaina. Took her all of 24 hours to go from "motorcycles are dumb" to "can you take me for a ride" and finally "will you buy me one and teach me how to ride it?". I think it's driving her mom the horse lover crazy......

RE: First mods
When you do the hand guard mod, it's time to upgrade the stock bars too IMHO.
I did mine just in time too when I wasn't paying attention in a parking lot which was sloped near the curb. I ended up tri-pod'ed and had to lay the bike down on the asphalt to get off. [] Add insult to injury, when I stepped off, I didn't notice the the curb was elevated several inches off the ground behind it so, I ended up on the ground none the worse for wear. Other then scuffing the Acerbis logo on one handguard, the only other issue was some embarrasment on my part for not paying attention to the ground I was riding (and falling down) on. [8D]
After market bars, ProTaper in my case, will reduce the vibration you feel in your hands too!
