I dropped my new KLX an hour after picking it up from the dealer. Was playing at our local riding area, seeing how it would climb the hills in the gravel pit. Got to the top of one and the trail went way off camber and the bike slid into a big hole. It took four of us to drag it out, but no damage, just scuffed all the plastics on the right side. Later on that day in the woods, the trail went off camber again and the bike slid down the hill, lucky a tree broke our fall. Found out that the dealer didn't tighten the handle bars. I have got to get some tires with a little side bite. Last weekend I hit a couple trees (the Ricochet skidplate is good) trying to catch another Planet KLX member on deep sandy trails through the woods. Damn these stock tires!

I don't get you guys buy 1 to replace the bent one and get a set of BarkBusters, even when some tool pushed my bike over onto concrete there was no damage just a scratch on the barkbusters.

+2. Do the math. Dropped my bike a couple of weeks after getting it. Bent the clutch lever. Ordered new lever and hand guards same day. Installed hand guards before new clutch lever. Have dumped the bike um, a few times, since. No damage at all to controls. Should be the first mod done, period, unless you are THE ONE who will never lay it down. If you are please let me know, as I will be a faithful follower of the ONE WHO NEVER LAYS IT DOWN (yet).

Handguards... Hmmm What kinda do you have?

I thought they were just plastic wind deflectors. I did not know they had any "strength" to speak of...

Please lay some wisdom on me about the barkbusters.
Thanks.

Get a a gas stove and hold the lever over the flame. For a while. Then place the lever on a wooden bench and use oven mitts and hammer to bend it back. You will burn through the mitts because they weren't meant to handle that kind of heat. But at least your levers are fine.

Screw paying for new levers. Bend that crap back and protect with handguards. Saw off the ball with a hacksaw while you're at it.

By the way, if you want new levers, I have a couple of OEM's sitting on my shelf.

"I don't get you guys buy 1 to replace the bent one and get a set of BarkBusters"

Already got the Cycras, but learned early from the boy scouts always be prepared you never know if someone else might need one...

'Barkbusters' originally were made america, the 'name' was then sold to an Austrailian company.

tusk hand guards from Rockey mountain- great value and you will not be stuck in the woods with a broken lever. Also they will save your hands if you run any tight single track.

+1 on the Tusk handgaurds from RMATV. I have dropped the bike a couple of times and bounced off many trees in the tight stuff with no broken levers or broken fingers.

by the way, this pic. is not current, bike has some new parts!
