Faulty valve check?
First off, thanks for all the good information you people have provided on this forum. Since purchasing my 1 owner '09 klx250s (2010) you have provided me, and countless others, excellent information and lots of laughs along the way. You have helped me get to the point where I am today. I just sent my 250 to B&B and am anxiously awaiting the return of the 351.
My question is concerning my valve check. The first measurement we took was not TDC, but still on the round part of the cam lobe. 3 were within specs, but the left exhaust measured over 2 times the high side tolerance. Next we checked at TDC and all 4 checked fine. We couldn't find any excessive wear on the bearings or the lobe in question. My friend/mechanic seemed a bit concerned and I was wondering if any one has come across this situation. Any help is always appreciated.
The bikes been running a little rich, but the rings and cylinder looked new even after my first 5000 miles. Got an FMF Q4, kdx snorkel. DJ kit etc...and another 100cc's on the way!

Welcome!
First post and your doing the 351. Good on ya! I just started my 351 for the first time a couple hours ago and so very much wanted to ride...but saving that for the weekend.
I don't know what to tell you on the valves other than the KACR (Kaw auto compression release) to ease starting acts on only one valve. Maybe that was the one? I think that's the left front one.

After researching how the KACR works, it's a good possibility that that is what was happening. Guess that's why you're supposed to check at TDC. Once it's back together I'll pay more attention to what's happening when I manually crank the engine.
Here's a link I found explaining how the KACR is supposed to work.
KACR Kawasaki Automatic Compression Release
Makes sense to me after I read it.
Thanks for the replies!
