extra holes in carb slide???
Hey guys,
Check out the link below. It's an Australian site with a write-up on the 2003 KLX250. In the third paragraph up from the bottom it talks about there being a couple of extra holes in the carb slide and says that plugging those holes increases performance. Does anyone know if our bikes have the same slide as the Aussie bike? Does anyone happen to have their carb apart right now to check on this? Just thought I'd ask before going to the trouble to take my carb off to look...
Ride on.

I don't know about EXTRA HOLES in the slide - there are only two that I'm aware of:

One is for the needle to sit in (middle) and the one closest to the edge is to provide a vacuum signal to help the slide rise.
I put the part number into Ron Ayers and it comes back as bogus.
MaverickAus,
Do you have any idea as to what your mates are doing?
Yep, Mav, Bmwhd and I discussed this. The article refers to the Aussie KLX. The holes they refer to do not apply to us in the states. Disregard this mod ine the US.
The holes that the article refer to are at the top of the slide and are on the 250. The replacement slide that it mentions is off of the 300. I epoxied them on my 250 and it allowed the vacuum to lift the slide much more readily so that it was always in the power.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone has ever put a throttle cable directly onto the slide and done away with the butterfly altogether![&:]

NavKLX,
The Aussie KLX 250 has four holes in the carb slide.
One on the very top and another one on the side at the top directly below it. These are normal and are the ones that are drilled out with the dynojet kit.
There are then 2 additional holes added, 180 degrees opposed, on the side of the slide towards the bottow. These are there to limit maximum throttle opening to meet Australian noise testing (we don't have the butt plug in the muffler). Basically these extra holes allow more air to pass around the slide, preventing it from lifting and revving right out. Dealers normally fill these in with expoxy glue. If they aren't the bike won't rev freely up to the red line and will not go up moderate hills without down changing a couple gears.
