Crap, I was hoping the leanness wouldnt be the cause.

I'm hesitant to re-jet because I dont want to lose my fuel economy. Now you all know where I get my Green name from.

What fuel economy are you getting?
Lets compare it to a correctly jetted and tuned bike.
An engine tuned properly should not consume more fuel if ridden normally.
You will probably be compensating for a lack of power by twisting the throttle more.
An engine breathing freely IMO gives maximum efficiency.
Power v fuel economy.
Just because the bike was strangled so it could pass an emissions test, doesn't ultimately make it efficient in the real world.

If you really want to save fuel, tune it right and ride it gently.
No point having it run like crap and then wringing its neck off.

I'm running a #138 main jet and a #38 pilot. Still getting 27 km litre. What are you getting stock? It won't be muck better than my figures I bet. (63.5 MPG, mixed terrain 95% off road. 70.1MPG urban cruising.)

I get about 63 mpg in the city taking the rpm's up to 5 or 6k in each gear. I would imagine I'd get close to 70 mpg on the open road.

1L = .26 Gal
1km = .62 mi
Damn your right, you get 63 mpg too.

I guess I need to look up that dude who wanted to sell me his Jet Kit for $20. I had seen in previous post people talking about getting in the low 50 mpg. Maybe they weren't tuned right. How do you know if it is tuned right?

I'd like to open her up more but only if it benefits efficiency, not just power.

You would get on well with my wife.
Man she was pissed when I bought a plasma TV and she found out that an LCD used less energy.

Fortunately she knows nothing about tuning a motorcycle.

Your a funny man Jason.

Actually she is a few generations Aussie but her heritage is Welsh.

Not real bright but man can she sing.

(I am a dead man walking if she ever gets to read this)
(only joking to any Welsh people who can afford a KLX)
(unlikely)

ooh, Neil...haha

To the OP, I forgot to mention this the other day. I took my bike out Friday, and it had sat since my test on Wednesday....and other than it being warm in my garage, being its summer and theres no AC in my garage, where it stayed warm as far as room temp goes, but compared to the engine it was sitting cold for two days......I pulled the bike out, turned the key on, and hit the button and it started right up. No choke. So...thats what having the proper pilot jet and the proper amount of turns on the screw can do.
