Default engine case crack

I rode my 2009 klx250s to work today and about 30 minutes after I parked I noticed some oil on the ground. After taking the skid plate off I discovered there is a hair line crack along one of the bolts and it is leaking. My bike has less than 1000 miles on it and I just stated to ride it again in the last 2 weeks.

After more investigation the crack that I found is not leaking. It's running down the head from the crappy valve cover gasket.

was a valve inspection/adjustment done recently?...my valve cover was just layered with thick silicone...i had to carefully scrape it all off before adding a new sealant and putting the gasket back on....

I had a similar issue, except i thought my base gaskets were leaking after my big bore install. Whole engine covered with oil. Turns out the cover was pinched at the front of the motor and was pouring oil

The motor has never been touched yet but I'm guessing if I'm gonna change the gasket I should go ahead and check the valves while I am in there.

'09! Get a new cam cover gasket.
Not worth the trouble to get in there to do something and then reuse the old gasket. The '09s had a batch of bad gaskets that would shrink when removed the first time. The best cure is replacement; using a bunch of sealant might cure the leak but make a big mess or cause more problems (excess sealant ending up where it shouldn't be at all).
EDIT:
Good idea on checking the valves while you're there. It'll give you an idea how things are. Write down the results for future reference

The original valve cover gasket shrinks. When I installed the big bore kit I had to order a new one. The new one doesn't shrink, when I checked the valve clearances I was able to reuse the newer one. The head had traces of sealer from the factory so I did my best to copy their technique. No leaks found.
