Yeah if you try to put it in gear with the stand down, even while holding the clutch, it just dies. I disabled the clutch safety switch but I still have the stand switch. Once in a blue moon I'd click it into gear with the stand down and then wonder why it won't start. Haven't done it in a couple months, probably. Usually it happens after a spill; I'll still be in gear and try to start it with the stand down and it won't go and I gotta stop and scratch my head. I'm planning on removing the entire switch off the stand, all the mud we end up in down here in the swamp.

The reason I took mine off is because it interfered with my left foot while standong on the pegs. and also it is just a stupid idea

my buddy has a new ktm 990 adv, and when he would stand up the motor would die.... it took alot of figuring out that when he stood his foot was bumping the kickstand and it must have had a really sensative switch, and boom it would die...lol... kinda funny.

I bypassed the switch on my KLX too, as well as the clutch. I guess it is a nice feature if the kickstand spring ever broke while riding, the kickstand flopping down could be pretty dangerous. I read recently where I guy got killed on a Harley on the road when that happened.

KTM's solution is a little rubber strap by the left rear number plate that holds the kickstand in the up position even if the spring breaks or the kickstand gets knocked during a ride. But it is up to you to use it and not ride off with the stand down in the first place. But I never throw my leg over unless the kickstand is up, so that is unlikely.

Best way. Put stand up, THEN throw your leg over.

I gotta try this, but like redpillar, I think I may be too vertically challenged.

I only got my bike this summer, so i'm hopin it be second nature for me to put my stand up and hopefully not forget anymore. When I feel comfortable with it i'll be getting rid of the switch altogether. We shall see next summer....

Kick the stand up, lean the bike to you a little, and throw a leg over. Thats how I do it, and I'm 5'8" just for reference.

Well I leave the stand down when I throw my leg over it, because I have a habbit of not throwing enough momentum over the bike, and teetering back over to the left and almost dropping it on myself. Just kick it up before you press play.

That happened to me.
Well I assume the spring broke. Never did find it.
Just heard a clanging noise, looked down, and the stand was flapping around.
I had disconnected the switch, along with all excess "stuff" a long time ago, so fortunatly the stand didn't jam and flip me off.
