Easy Mods question
I am an old goat, but I have been riding and loving motorcycles sence I was 13...but this model ( KLX 250s ) is new to me. I would like to keep the cv carb. and maybe raise the needle ever so slightly, maybe remove the snorkle,
Readjust the idle screw. Then drill the baffle in the muffler. I do not want to distroy fuel milage. I don't think that I want to rejet ? But I would like some input. Please keep in mind that I don't ride much offroad, mostly gravel and
pavment. Thanks in advance for you input. I am in Wichita Kansas....

Drilling the baffle does nothing but make the bike a little louder and trashes the spark arrester.
Read the posts here and you will find you are on the right track. Open up the exhaust, intake and get the engine the proper fuel (rejet). The bike will run much better. You CAN shim the needle up, you can drill out the plug in the carb and adjust the idle mixture.
If it does not start when cold the choke jet inside the carb will need to be drilled to .018" or a #77 bit.
Welcome and enjoy.
I'm 50 does that make me an old goat?

Dude!...you're way too old to be riding anything more than a Jazzy mobility scooter...LOL! Born 1951 here. Fixing to head out to Moab for some fun.
If you want to maintain your mpg and get some performance the best bang for the buck mods are an FMF Q4 pipe and a Dynojet kit, then pull the snorkle. You will not hurt the mpg much until you lower the gears which you may never do. With some research you can do all this for around $200 and take your stock 16-18 rear wheel horse power to the low 20's. These bikes are strangled on both sides of the piston and fixing that makes a noticable improvment. On mine I'll still do the big bore someday but until then it's not too shaby.
