Two separate things.
Drilling the starter jet is the "Choke" (enricher jet) which helps the cold starting.
Drilling the slide lets the vacuum lift the slide faster. Twisting the throttle doesn't lift the slide in the stock carb.

ha ha ha.
just kidding.

Two separate things. Starter jet is the non-removable enrichment jet in the carb. Drilling it to 0.018" helps starting on those hart-to-start bikes. Dynojet instruction don't address this.

Drilling the slide is enlarging the vacuum hole in the plastic slider for somewhat increased throttle response.

I don't think the current DJ kits require drilling anything...

it doesn't. but making the choke(starter) jet larger helps with cold starting and starting when the bike has been sitting around for a few weeks.

Wow, the DJ kit does not speak of drilling anything but the cap over the fuel screw..

Marcham, your carb setup and MCM should start instantly warm and within 720 degrees cold, with choke on - almost instantly..

Some may still select the #2206 DJ kit listed for the KLX300. I think it makes sense for those going big bore. The needle is a bit more aggressive than the KLX250 DJ kits. The instructions include drilling the slider vacuum vent hold a little larger and drilling the fuel screw cap for removal. See part DD32 in the dynojet link above.
