Difference between 1994 KLX250R and 2009 KLX250S

I think this might shed some light -
Kawasaki KLX250R
Have a look at the horsepower specs - 30HP.... at the crank.
23.5HP at the rear wheel.
So, just about what a decently jetted and uncorked KLX250S makes - which I just noticed was noted in the second post of this thread - lol
Also y'all be careful if you glue stuff on - anything glued to the outside of that rotor is going to pulling about 7,400 g's at redline.

I hope to take it apart soon and have a look. The piece of metal needed would probably weigh just a few grams btw, not a lot of mass for Gs to be acting on. I have a piece marked off and it's very tiny
But I'll see about repositioning the rotor instead while I have it apart.

There'd be a lot of oil slinging around if I ran it without the cover

Good on you for giving it a go, can't wait to hear what you find.

Gluing is my last choice because if it's adhering strong enough to stay on at high rpm, it'd be hard to get it off, which you'd want to do eventually just to make it permanent and remove the failure risk.
I'll poke around in there this weekend since I'll be on my own and see what the options are. Maybe I can surprise that friend's kid's 2014 KX250F after all haha
So Bernie, are you saying that a lot of the gain showed up in the higher rev range as the engine revs higher and better than before the mod?

Here's a pic of the stator and pickup on one KF member's 2010 KLX
Not a lot of wiggle room for elongating the pickup coil's mounting holes-which on a 2007 are dimpled on the backside to locate it exactly in place when it's installed.
If I am looking at correctly, the pickup coil mount would have to be moved 3mm CC as you look at the backside of the cover.
