Default Damn... Need a new motor for a DRZ/KLX 400s

Any ideas where to look? There are complete motors on fleabay for 1000+, and bottom ends for under 200. I don't want to pay over a thousand for a new complete, and I don't think I can get away with just changing the bottom end.

The shop showed me the motor after taking it off the bike, but didn't split the cases. The gap between the piston head and where the crankshaft connects has large chunks of gears floating around... So this motor is junk. The piston head looks fine, but there's a good size gash in the crankshaft. For another $600 I can have him open the case to tell me that it will cost a few thousand in parts, and another thousand in labor to fix it, so I think getting a new motor would be the best idea... Or junking the whole bike

Are there any resources I should be looking into that I might've missed? The almighty gods of Google are not helping me out too much.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just called back to the shop... Looks like I can use my top end after all! If anyone knows a reliable seller of a bottom end, or any info at all, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

Sounds like you would be better off getting a complete engine, unless you can get your head, piston and jug checked out on the cheap.

*EDIT*

Looks like you posted as i posted. Good to hear that the top end is ok, that should cut the cost down considerably.
