Hey everyone,

My KLX often has trouble switching into 1st gear. It wouldn't slip into first during an uphill section today, and rather then being gentle, I stomped on it out of frustration...stupid I know. The shift lever instantly slid downwards about 2" further then it's designed to, and now it is stuck in 5th or 6th. When I try and move the lever it has very little play, and is unable to switch gears.

What do you guys think it might be?

Depending on what you guys think I might take it in, or wait to fix it over Christmas break.

What year? Maybe shift star?

 

I think it's a 2007. Either that or an 06

 

Probably a cheap and easy fix...there are weak link parts designed to fail before real damage can be done...they are also easily accessed. I'm thinking shift star and the pin (whatever it's called).
Could it be the pin that moves the shift star has bent?
Shift star and pin replacement have been well documented here. All "seem" to be easy shade tree mechanic jobs.
