I understand.

 

Just replaced my chain & sprockets with new. *I know that the CS nut is VERY tight from the factory. *I used to think that they were being over-tightened when assembled but I have now had the nut off several times and it seems like each time, it is just as difficult to get off as the first time. *I am torquing to 70 ft/lb as specified in the manual. *

It seems like it is tightening as it's being ridden, or perhaps seizing. *There did appear to be a little corrosion between the nut, washer,and sprocket.

I applied some anti-seize compound this time so I'll see if that helps.

Any of you guys who regularly swap out your front sprocket find the same?

First time I had to take it to a shop to use an impact gun. Now, my 18" breaker bar takes care of the job.

On the '09, the manual calls for 92ft-lbs.

 

Yes, it does seem to be tight every time. Not as much as the first time, but I have technique down now. Anti-seize makes sense. I used a little transmission fluid on it.

 

I was going to put the 13 on myself... impossible. I took it to the shop & had it done... he said came off easy.... total BS.

 

@Malves: you are right , 92ft/lbs is correct, excuse my typo.

Regardless, my torque wrench goes to 140 ft/lbs and I can not loosen the CS nut with it. I use a 3' breaker bar!

 

life of me, could not do it with a breaker bar and jumping on it...impact gun took it off with no problem...

 

Mine stymied my rattle gun as well. Had to use a 2' breaker bar and literally stand on it. I was hoping it wouldn't be as bad in the future.

 

originally, it didn't work with the impact gun...but, twisting the impact gun as i pulled the trigger did the trick....now, it come off and on with ease when i switch back and forth between the 13t and 15t front....

 

@666: how often do you swap? ie. is it often enough that there is insufficient time for the surfaces to seize?
