I've been breaking in the new 351 taking a couple short rides over the last week. Bill Blue recommends not exceeding half throttle and avoiding constant speed for the first 100 miles. I made the mistake of filling the case with a synthetic blend. I later found out this will increase break-in time.

The bike has been running great but unfortunately it quit while riding into work this morning. All 12V power was lost. Whose brilliant idea was it to bolt the seat and plastics down? There is no fuse access without wrenches. This is pretty lame. Has anyone come up with a quick detach mod for the plastics?

Anyway, I trailered the bike home and will troubleshoot this evening. It should be a simple fix.

The 20A main fuse in the starter relay blew open.
A simple fuse in an inaccessible location is all it took to strand me on the side of the road. Some changes are required.

Hey man,

I'm rebuilding the top end in my KLX250 and I recently picked up the 351 kit from Bill Blue.

Where do these go? and is it completely necessary to change?

Those look like the roll pins that go in the bolt holes for the head. There should be a set for the lower and upper mating surfaces.

dowel pin, sometimes called a knock pin. they center the head to the jug, and the jug to the case. the hold down bolts run through the middle. I don't think you necessarily need them all, but if there are none installed.... the head might stay put, and it might not.

they are removed to do certain kinds of work, like surfacing. sometimes they fall out on their own, I usually pull them when doing cylinder/head work so they aren't in the way. and if you have replacement parts like from another bike they may be missing.... which is OK if your originals are still installed. if the originals are there on the case (and/or head) and the jug has them too then there will be spares. in some engines they serve as a passageway.

"roll pin", geez, wrong pin type. Sorry about that.
It's just "pin" by the KLX parts catalog:

That's what I believed them to be. I did only notice 1 already in place when I attached the cylinder.

Last night I installed the cams and was about to place the head cover on before I noticed these laying out. Smh
