Default RE: commuters weigh in

2500 miles on her and i just installed some K-760's for a trip to H-M in WV.......The D-603's will be put back on right after my state inspection is passed. They are low but slightly passable.this is after the trip ,of course.I run the 13-42 for my daily commute and i runa 13-47 or 49 for my offroad use. This thing is so easy to switch over it's insane.........alot easier than the atv's that i'm used to dealing with.....as a matter of fact my lil KLX got 212 miles in one sitting last saturady for me to ride from my place to Port-Jervis ,NY to the hawks nest and she was a true trooper!.I got fuel twice wich beat out the harleys...!!!!!!!.as for mods motor wise?...Free mods,DJ 128 main,Keihin #40 pilot,FMF powercoreIV silencer,FSW header,Removed backfire screen,Twin air filter,.....other mods are top secret.

Sounds likea lot of commuters went with the 13t...is that just for off-road or will it help the commute. I'm thinking about the highway up to the mountains..60-70 moh in the flats, 55 mph up a steep grade...don't want to get run over!

Not to fond of the stock rubber, the irc gp-1 may be a purchase sooner than latter.

The K-760's are DOT knobbies, why put the worn out stockers on.........unless the 760's are worn out too?
The 13 tooth limited my overall top speed but offered up a much needed increase in acceleration. To pass before it was drop to 5th and hold it pinned to get to 70 and around traffic. Now its just leave it in 6th and roll on by. Stock gearing I ran 70-75 semi comfortably as far as buzziness is concerned. Now I "try" to keep it under 60 due in part to the buzz from the **** and also motor vibes. I have an issue with my right hand/wrist that the vibes will make my hand numb starting with my thumb and then spreading through. I used to ride quads all the time when I was younger and I think the vibes from that and the awkward positioning of the thumb throttles kinda screwed up the nerves in that hand.

With the tire/gearing change after about 8 miles of 60mph pavement my hand is shot, thumb feels swollen and its completely numb. I had to adjust my driving style as well as my grip. If I use the donut part of the grip to modulate the throttle I have no problem as it isolates the vibes somewhat.

Here's a tire shot, you can see where the vibes come from.

Don't get me wrong, they are awesome tires in the dirt, but I gave up road comfort for it. Road peformance as far as traction and handling.........A-OK as far as I'm concerned, no quirks, no wobbles, no feeling of slipping out from under you.

2007 Bike 8 weeks old.
Just turned 1,200 miles on the odo.
I commute 35 miles R/T each day.
I can take the highway 90% of the way where the speed limit is 50-60 mph or I can take back roads at 35-45 mph; I take the hwy 50% of the time.
Stock gears, all free mod's, KDX snorkel and just some minor carb tweaks.
Don't have much trouble pulling away from traffic and can out accelerate 50% of the cars up to about 70mph (depending on the wind). Pelican 1200 case on back rack. Garmin GPS-V handlebar mount. Helmet: Simpson GS3-MX green with iridium face-shield Have a new set of Michelin AC10’s front and rear ready to mount. Average 74.3 MPG (GPS = actual) on 88 octane fuel.

My one way commute is just under 3 miles on 40mph paved roads. Still running stock tires - unsure what will go on next when they're due to be changed. Too many mods to list, but most significant 331cc big bore, TM34 carb and Muzzy exhaust. Either use a HJC helmet from my street biking days or an Arai XD.

I take it to work the long way and park it in the back room. Customers in the know ask lots of questions.
