probably covered before. The oem 250s cable was back-ordered so I bought a 300 motion pro, the MP 300 cable is 1" longer and fits up fine.
The oem is the same price and is a little better quality, has a second outer sleeve and a plastic thingy over the lever side crimp end that the MP doesn't.
Neither come with the boot for the thumb adjuster so hang on to your old one.

I went with the OEM KLX300R cable and it seemed to be 2" longer. I got it from bike bandit. Found the part number in an older post about common parts.

It was a great fit since I put taller handlebars on. You're right about the rubberboot, luckily I kept my old one.
