Exclamation Check Sag.

Checked my sag recently as I've just done a few rides loaded with weekend gear. Set the sag initially after 500 km of 'settling' from new. Lost 30 mm since then! The spring must have settled some more. Reset it now so all is rosy again. Worth doing periodically. I'll now be checking mine every 2000 km or so.

I'm 85 Kg suited and booted, here are my settings.

Sag. 585 mm.
Rider sag. 490 mm. (Aim -90 mm to -110 mm less than sag measure.)
Static sag. 560 mm. (Aim -25 mm to -35 mm less than sag measure. If less than -25 mm then spring is too soft.)

That's the stock 5.8 rear spring. Ordered some Race tech .44 kg/mm springs from the USA as the $ rate is so good at the mo'. Just waiting for delivery.

You can check your 'sag' and 'static sag' without help but you need someone to do the measure for your rider sag.
I got the handbrake to help.LOL.

Keep in mind the 100mm (4") sag target is generic for bikes with ~12" travel. This may or may not be what your after with a 11" bike. There is no set rule, once you have the correct spring installed rear sag adjustment is more about steering than rear susp.

Also when using the susp shops online spring calcualators, which are a good tool, their recomendations are based on THIER valving, same with the oil level and viscosity advise they show you. This may or may not be what's best for an otherwise stock setup. Case in point: my motopro sprung fork with their oil in it, totally underdamped. something I inherited from the previous owner and am sorting out. I also got their rear spring sized for a 220lb rider, that passes the 4" rider, 1" free sag test for my 190lb weight, go figure. But isn't "right". Working on that too, could be a diiference in linkage ratio's compared to more common race bikes the spring calc logarithms are based on?
