Chain guard slide thing

Chain guard slide thing
So I'm new to the whole chain driven motorcycle...always had belts..
Got my new SF here with 75 miles...just changed the oil and I was looking at the black plate that the chain sits on.
I'm sure once I sit on it and the chain starts moving it doesn't hit..but I did notice that it is etched a little
Is this normal or do I need to tighten the chain?
Thanks

Welcome to the Forums Dready!
It's normal for the chain to rest on that black guide without weight on the bike. There are adjustment specs in the little free manual that came with the bike(Page 110 for the '07 Model). 2.2 - 2.6 inches from the top of the swingarm when you lift the chain up with your finger. This is measured right at the end of the plastic chain guard.
Hope that helps.
BTW, Depending on how hard you ride, the chain usually only needs the first initial adjustment then it stays pretty much the same. I know some people will dispute that but they ride real hard. I ride mine real easy so my chain hasn't stretched since my 1st adjustment.
