Carb Mod Question?
I'll be tearing into my carb Wed. and have studied the HMF walk through pretty carefully and this one note has me concerned. I noticed that no one here has mentioned this but anyway, from the HMF forums,

So what's the deal, soaking something for the carb in water just sounds like a bad idea as either I wait for it to dry to reinstall it, which would defeat the purpose of wetting it I would think or installing it partially wet and having water in the carb, neither one sounds too appealing. While I have the carb out would it be easier to drill the airbox vent in the bike or since most everything is disconnected just pull the airbox out? I'll also be drilling the slide to 7/64" if thats what the correct size is. Here is the list of parts going in:

I'm running the KLX250D exhaust system which is the same as the 300 and is considerably more open and has no catalytic converter. I've made a backplate for the exhaust to cut down on the noise a bit so its not totally unrestricted but still flows a heckuva lot more than stock. If none of this makes sense I'm pretty tired.
NOTE: As soon as you remove the slide/diaphram soak it in HOT water, if you don't the rubber will expand to a large size that you will not be able to get back into the groove.

I did NOT soak my slide/diaphram assembly in water.
Do NOT spray it with carb cleaner either.
Simply remove it CAREFULLY and GENTLY making sure you do not tear it, stretch it, fold it, spindle it or mutilate in any way shape or form.
When you put it back in place, be sure that it is pushed down GENTLY into the recess in the top of the carb. If when you are installing the carb top and it doesn't feel right, it probably ain't. Forcing the screws in place will only screw up the diaphram. DON'T DO IT!
7/64ths is the correct size to drill the slide.
