Default Carb diaphram in water?

I'm getting ready to do the dyno kit on my 09. Has anyone not put the diaphram in hot water and experience the expansion problem. I wouldn't think it would expand that quick since you are only changing the needle and that should only take a couple of minutes.

I re-jetted my carb, and didn't do anything special with the diaphragm (other that be very gentle with it) all went well. I agree that hot water sounds like it would make any expansion worse. Just my experience.

I just made sure I had the needle ready to drop in, and made the switch quick

I jetted my carb with 10,000 miles on it and didnt use hot water on the vacuum diaphram and I also rejetted my buddies with 2,000 miles on it and didnt use hot water. Both are 06's. You just have to walk the lip of the diaphram into the the lip on the top of the carb and make sure the opposite side doesnt pop up halfway thru the process. You might have to fiddle with it for a minute, but it went real easy both times for me.

I used the hot water and still had to walk the lip around for a minute, so it doesnt sound like it makes much difference if you do it or not.

Holy &#@*. This is a BIKE now. 2 hours start to finish. FMF Q4 slip on, Dyno with 128 main, needle on 3rd slot, Kouba screw 2 1/2 turns, KDX 200 snorkle, and this thing runs like a beast. Went for a test ride and a guy on a crotch rocket pulled up next to me at a red light. When I hit 2nd gear and the front wheel came off the ground, you should have seen his head turn. Mine turned around backwards I think. I couldn't believe the power. I guess the hardest part of the job was getting the carb back in. That was a witch. Thanks for all the advise that everyone has posted. It was a bunch of help. Didnt use the hot water trick and didn't have a problem at all. I guess having the needle ready maybe helped. Thanks especially to DIRTSURFER for his 12-2006 thread titled Mod Day. Didnt remove all the smog stuff this time, but maybe in the future if I find that it improves performance in any way.
