Default Can you boys (and girls) keep a secret?

I just have to tell you people how I got my bike.
But keep it to yourself.

As mentioned on a previous post my brother owes me some money. ($A13,000)

I had an agreement with "her in doors" (the wife) that,
a) I would wait until my brother paid me back before I bought a trail bike.
b) I would buy a second hand one for around $A4,000. ($US3,000)

Then I see the new KLX250 for $A6,490 plus on road brand new. mmmm
I go and see the dealer and he will do a brand new KLX250 with a 300cc kit fitted by them with handguards and 12 months registration for $A7,900.
mmmm I want that bike and I want it how.
(did I mention that I'm not a patient person?)

So, here is what I do.

My friend I go down and buy 2 of these bikes for $A15,800.
I put $A4,000 on my credit card and he takes out a loan for the balance.
Both bikes are bought in his name.
We take them back to his place.

Then we go out and ride them in the dirt a couple of times so they look well used.
Then I place an advertisement in the local paper.
Something along the lines of "near new, forced sale, going overseas".
I buy the paper and look all surprised when I see the ad and show the wife.
She of course is totally not interested, but the seed is sown.
Then, during the week I make a number of calls , answered by another friend, and pretend to haggle over the price.
"WE" agree on $A5,250. (not a bad price for a "near new" bike.

She then says "not until you get the money from your brother", as agreed.
My first friend then offers, in front of her, to lend me the money.
She has nowhere to go and "BINGO", I have my bike.

Now my brother still hasn't paid me the money so I need to pay Robert back $A3,900 and I still owe $A4,000 on the credit card.

mmmm The "slush" fund will be taking a hit for a while.

Am I wrong here? [sm=badidea.gif]
It's not like I killed anyone!!!![sm=devilangel.gif]

Well that's how it happened folks.

Cheers.

I have 2 credit cards.
1 she knows about and 1 she doesn't.
This is my "slush" fund so to speak.

I "squirrel" away $100 here, $100 there.
Then when I need to have access to a few extra bucks, "BINGO"

I was put onto this system by a work mate as a way of keeping the peace.

You see my wife is all over the finances.
The budgetting Queen.
And for the most part it's a good system as I simply can't be trusted.

So............ I hatched a plan that sees me enjoying the fruits of my labour without the grief of having to explain where every cent is going.

The bike was taking it to a whole new level.

H'mmm, sounds like a new concept is coming down under . . . . . "Deficit Spending" ! ! ! !

Heck, we've been doing that here in the states for years.

Of course, there is usually a price to be paid when the "her in doors" finds out - and for some reason they always seem to do just that - and starts questioning your finances.

Sometimes however, it is easier to ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

But you are presently riding and that is the most important part of the situation!

Do you have a comfortable sofa in the house?

Yes Marty, I fully expect that this may all come out one day.

But, by then, it will be way in the past (I hope).

Yes we have a comfy sofa but!!!! her in doors has her sights set on a new one.
Why I say?
This one keeps your butt off the floor doesn't it?

"yes......... but it's the wrong colour"

That's because you made me paint the walls.

"yes..........looks good but we need a new sofa and carpet and coffee table and etc etc etc to match"

Does that also include a new 50" wide screen TV?

"NO..........you don't need it. What's wrong with the old tv? You have too many toys. And since you have that new trail bike there is NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo way you can have a new tv.

Heh honey, take at look at this, a near new 50" tv real cheap!!!!!

Come on fellas......tell me I'm not alone?

You're not alone.

Matter of fact, a good friend of mine just bought a used boat. He had wanted a new boat, but his wife was NOT 100% in favor of it! A used boat was cheaper, they got a great deal on a used one in excellent condition and she kind of relented about the purchase.

After he got it they truly enjoyed it.

Then one day, his wife asked for a new sofa to match the redecorated room - yes, he did as his wife asked and painted the room a very different color - knowing full well that it would take new furniture to fix it.

He shared this with me one day at work and was wondering how much this new furniture was going to cost.

I gave him an alternative - Tell the wife that since he bought a used boat and saved a lot of money, perhaps they should look for used furniture to save themselves an equal amount of money!

I don't know if he had the gumption to bring that up to his wife!
