I am very paranoid about adjusting this this right. I followed all directions and the sound that it was making at 5k-6k rpms is gone but i just wanted to double check with you guys if y'all could hear anything. Thanks mark for getting it here so fast and thanks for the input.

 

It sounds decent. If it is quiet in the area of the tensioner, should be good.

Don't overthink it. All you are doing is taking out the slack in the chain. If you are really paranoid, break the lock nut loose and back it out 1/4 turn. If the rattle comes back lightly, turn it back in 1/8 turn. If the light rattle is still there turn it back in another 1/8 (back where you started). Whatever you do, do not tighten it until you hear an audible swishing turbo sound - way too tight.

Realize being 1/4 turn loose is only around .012", your old malfunctioning tensioner was allowing more like .250" slack.

Sounds fine to me...

But it would be hard to hear one that is a bit too tight.

Way too tight they whir and grumble and you would know.

Too loose the slap and rattle.

But you can have them too tight and not make a lot of noise, but wear out your guides and tensioner.

It is almost a feel thing....

But I think you are good.

 

Sounds good to me. I will tell you what I did. Get a marker or paint pen. When you feel it is adjusted right make a mark on the adjustment bolt and the tensioner body. Now warm the bike up. Loosen the lock nut and slowly loosen the bolt until you hear the chain. Now slowly tighten until the rattle just stops. Does your marks line up? If they do you just reinsuranced yourself it's right. It's nice to have a reference.

I did this a few times and the marks always lined up. Leave the marks. It nice for quick pre-ride checks that nothing has moved.
