built up KLX's
hey i was jsut wondering has anyone here built up their KLX yet, im talking not exterior mods but cam jobs, port and polish jobs, carb swap/tuning, fabrication, etc.
I was readig up on these little honeys and was kinda disappointed to hear they only push 18 HP. then i also read ona site that i moronically forgot about team green building theirs up to ge pushing about 34HP.
SO i got to thiking , if you added a muzzy full sytem, removed airbox snorkle, and rejet the carb. how much estimated HP would this turn out?

RE: built up KLX's
The closest one here to 30 hp would have to be NoBrakes and that's with 81CC's of overbore and a pumper carb, and I'm not too sure if even that it would be at 30hp. I think the stock 300 which has more aggressive timing is in the low to mid 20's. I saw it in a dirtbike article comparing the XR250, DR250, and the KLX 300.

RE: built up KLX's
I think it can be done as it seems the motor in the KLX shares a lot of capability with it's brethren.
Compression, cam timing and flow will always make a motor delivery more power.
The question is, just how much do you need?
With the "Grapevine Mod Package" in, the bike does become a lot more rider friendly. According to the dyno runs I've seen, your talking about a 25 to 30 % improvement for not much money.
Might want to give it a try.
Raw power is not the only thing that makes an off road bike. Suspension is a big part of it and the KLX is spot on there.
