Thumbs down broken camshaft cap bolt

When finishing my valve adjustment I over torqued the bolts of the Cylinder Head Cover that threaded into a rise on the camshaft cap.
There is no parts number for the camshaft cap because I think they are made as a set.
Does anyone have any experience with welding the threading back on the camshaft cap or I am into a large cost.

dumb question, just trying to clarify, are you talking about welding the cap or about welding the bolt itself?

Can you not helicoil it? I'm not remembering exactly where you're referring to, but if it's just a threaded hole for the valve cover, I'd think a helicoil should do fine.

Did you break the bolt or strip the threads in the cam shaft cap?
Different problems require different solutions.

If the treads are stripped in the cap then a helicoil would be the way to go. As a welder/machinist/aircraft mechanic/blah blah blah, I'd be a little hesitant to just patch a critical part like this up. Idk how much stress these caps are subjected to but I'd feel better with a brand new part in there. Its just unfortunate if you have to buy them as a set

Helicoil or even JB weld and drill/tap. Not much stress there, it's just holding the top cover on. At worst you'll have an oil leak if the repair let's go.

Default the treads in the camshaft cap

I split, into 3 pieces the threading on the camshaft cap from the bolt that is in the cylinder head cover. Sorry I wasn't clear about the issue. The bolt is fine, just the raised casing of the threading split. The camshaft cap while a separted part isn't sold as such. I have to purchase the entire cylinder head for over $500.00 ? Or can it be welded ?

If you had some pictures it'd be easier to see what you got going on but you could probly tig it if you know how or know someone that could do it for that matter.

Looking at a pic, I think I see what you're referring to. It's not just stripped...it's actually cracked in pieces where the valve cover bolt goes...correct? That's going to be tough to fix. I'd have to see a pic of how much it's broken and how far down.

We are talking about a bolt for the valve cover? Just use silicone on both sides of the gasket, leave the bolt out & silicone the bolt hole. If it leaks a little oil, add a little oil. If it leaks a lot of oil, then worry about a fix. I don't see any pictures, which bolt, which threads, etc.
