Default breaking it in

Hi! Wife of new member and I have a question. I have 600km on my new klx 250 (love it!) when did you run over 4000 rpm? It is getting quite dull not opening it up. Also, how fast can I expect it to go?
Great forum, lots of information. You have been great!

Hey Cindy, I wound it out in the first 20 miles using the Mototune break in, run it high, then back pressure then shift through the gears and whatnot. But I have heard that as long as you just vary the rpm's while riding it you should be fine. I have decided not to endorse the Mototune break-in anymore, everyone has to decide for themselves. Oh sure I might still paste the link but I'm not telling anyone that its the best way, mainly because I really don't know if it is the best way or not. There is always more than one way to do something. Good luck.

+1 - even though his website appears to be from 1994, I believe his break in method is good.

Mototune here also. Saw 9000rpm+ within the first 20 miles. I would say that after having 600km on the bike I would let it see 7-8.5k.

ride it like the cops are chasing you or like you stole it. either way you won't have any problems. just don't stay at a steady rpm for long. actually at that mileage your good. you should be changing that oil soon if you haven't already.

Oh I see what the problem is. Buy her the Yamaha XT 225 like I did for my wife, and then repossess the KLX.[8D]
