Default Properly Breaking in new Tribal Edition 636???

Hello Fellas,

I just sold my cbr 600 F4 and bought a new Kawi 636 tribal edition. SWEET!!!

Anyway, I was wondering how strict I should stay to the 6r's rules for breaking her in. The manual says 500 miles at no more than 4000 rpms and another 500 miles at no more than 6000. I got her yesterday and have put 300 miles on her already. But, I have to admitt I did go past my rpms since I had to ride her for 150 miles to get her home to Tucson from Phoenix on the highway.

The highest I went was 80 mphs .. I didn't have a choice. Either drive or get run over. But I did stop every 30 minutes. Anyway, the rest of the miles I've tacken EXTREMLY easy. All buy the book. I didn't pass 4000 rpms once.

Let me know what you guys think. I've been riding for a few years, but never broken in a new bike. I just can't wait to get her done and ready!!

When I was breaking my bike in, I would use heavy throttle up to the rpm limit instead of just using enough throttle to get me there. I heard that this was a better way of breaking her in because it would seat the valves better. I would go over the recommended limit too every so often, but waited till the break in period was done before I started to reallly open her up to the rev limiter.

just ty to vary your revs as much as you can and dont stay in one gear for too long at the same RPM. as in the previous post accelerating quickly up to 6000 rpms is better than doing it slowly. but the biggest thing to watch out for is "lugging"the engine i.e. shifting up to a higher gear before you revs are up. that would be very detrimental(if thats how you spell it) to the engine during break in. Enjoy the ride man

Got to agree the most important part is varying the engine speed constantly. It is important to seat the rings properly too which can be accomplished by engine braking or hard acceleration. It's OK to go over their reccomended engine speeds, but don't redline it. It is also important to let the engine completely (at least 2-3 hours) cool down between runs during break-in. This will help with proper seating.

I agree wih the others. Vary the engine speed as much as you can. Going over will not hurt it but try not to redline it. Those motors are pretty strong tho, so just have fun
