I just ordered a set of those Doubletake mirrors so I could fold them in when offroad. If they're really good I may put a set on my DR650 too.

And to Jeff's comment above on safety, I think the doubletakes offer a good compromise on safety. They swing right out of the way with any impact. Like Eric's they have a ball joint - actually two of them. And if I recall, they are not really glass either so less chance of breakage and a glass cut.

 

I have "lost" 3 mirrors, they never broke the glass though, just ripped off the bike...lol

 

I broke the ball off the ram mount on a tough spill Moab rock. Saved the mirror.

No laughing - any thoughts on a little hacksaw work on the stock right side mirror shaft. Make it a little more break away and to make sure it breaks prior to the master cylinder mount.

Had the double takes on my old bike. Like them a lot but at $100 a set they like them a little more then me at this point.

Besides the master cylinder protection I do not like those two steel spikes sticking up in front of me off the handle bars.

 

I've still got the stock mirrors but they're on relocator mounts so the master cylinder and clutch perch are safer.

Well, I didn't say "that's all"... I just said the mirror didn't break.

Besides the collar bone and the scuffed mirror, the right side covers sustained significant battle scars. I didn't do an endo or anything like that... I just got caught in a wash like the one pic you posted... Stuck my arm out, and the collar bone went "snap". Hurt like heck riding back to the trailer.

 

I just removed the left hand mirror and moved the mount to the right side. Removed the right mirror from the master cylinder and fitted it to the mount I just moved. Legal here in AUS to only run with the 'offside' mirror. I think this only works on the 07 and earlier bikes

 

There are also clamps for the street ride light bars (crash bars) as well that may work. The prices may be the same though.
