Default Blacksmith's Anvil

The size, shape, and hardness of a blacksmith's anvil ... you know what I'm talking about:

Speedracer138 recently posted in the DIY section about shaving his bike's seat. A few comments there led to a suggestion by BigRig18Wheeler regarding a gel insert. You are the man, BigRig - THANK YOU!

After a few PM's exchanged with BR, we thought one of these might work:

Well, I ordered one, and this is what showed up only about a day or so later - darn fast shipping:

I'm actually good all day when riding off-road on trails, etc, but after about 30 to 45 minutes on the pavement by back side could use a little help.

Pull the staples out of the cover and pull back the seat cover - I left the staples in the very back behind the seat mounting hardware - no need to pull it completely off:

With your cover pulled back like that, sit on your bike in your most used riding position and use a sharpy to mark your fore and aft extents:

Position the gel pad where it best covers the area and mark it more precisely for your cuts:

I used an exacto knife to cut the outline - you want to be a bit deeper than the gel pad. Oh, get yourself some "memory foam". I got some from a fabric store - this is the same foam used in those fancy mattresses that are so comfortable. The memory foam will go on top of the gel pad.
