Yeah, sorry, I was thinking you said it would only run while being cranked and would stop firing after that. I must be thinking of someone else's problem description and got them mixed up. Hope you figure it out ... sure sounds like a bad stator or something else in the charging system - enough power to run the bike but not enough to keep the battery up.

you say it cranks very fast?
i dont have much bike exp but i do work on a lot of cars
on a car when it cranks fast and empty its a lack of compresion
typically a broken timing belt
i know this is to simple and easy to over look but is the plug in and sealed?
all of the compression would go right out that hole if not

Bike turns over very fast won't start you can smell the gas, ran great beforeI put it away for the winter the float bowl has been drained spark plug has been changed battery is 100% I've had it checked Bike will start when boosted from my blazer then runs fine shut it off won't start again. Talked with the Yamaha dealer (closest to me) he said it sounds like the stator, I've brought my bike to the kawi dealer Thurs they adjusted my valves said way to tight for the bike to start on it's own on Fri dealer called me up and said the bike woul'nt start againg and they want to keep the bike till Mon, They said they tryed the cdi and that's great now there thinking is a ground cause theres frame paint where it's grounded it's been like that for 3,200 miles!!! And there wanting to charge me for all this tinkering around Thoughts??? I'm still thinking the stator is bad
Do you notice anything coming out of the float bowl vent hose when you're operating with the float bowl drain closed. I referring to the fuel smell you mentioned. You might have a varnished-up needle and seat causing the bowl to overflow.

Kawi called, said my bike is fixed they say it was the engine ground they took care of it with the warranty still charged for the valve adjustment they did'nt ask me to performI figured it's for they best since I still have four years to deal with them. Thanks for the help y'all
