Default bike just died

Ok I was riding the KLX and was doing 50 cruising and all of a sudden the bike just died. I pulled over moved it to reserve, choked it and it started right up. Rode the bike home and it kinda felt like it was running out of gas. Kinda of surging.

Now the mods are Dyno Jet kit with the spring installed. Washer is above the clip as it says.

What would cause this? Vent line pinched off? Carb not adjusted correctly? I heard somewhere that the spring with the Dyno jet kit may be causing it? What are your thoughts? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Sounds like a completely different problem. here is a good list to check.

A. Filter in tank line to carb.
B. Float level.
C. Dirt in carb.
D. plug.
E. Charging System.
F. Coil.
G. CDI.
H. Exhaust Clog.
I. Stator.
J. Kick Stand Switch.
K. Engine Kill Switch.
L. Key Ignition Cylinder.

the spring would not cause this. Make sure the white collar thing is seated properly over needle and washers.

Other mods?

other mods Q4 exhaust and dyno jet kit. Everything else stock on the engine.

Ran fine before the jet kit.

Could it be one of the vent lines pinched?

Yes, try to remove the gas tank vent lines temporarily. Check for your carb spill/overflow/vent lines. That happened to me.

sounds like you have crap in the gas, drain the tank completely and try it again.
It ran out and you switched to reserve,,, not a problem. It should have started without the choke though,,, you say it ran with a surge but did you ride it slower to reserve fuel??? did you have to leave the choke on or did you shut it down after you got it running?
If you jetted it and it ran fine, how long did it take before it ran crappy?

and you're sure you're not actually low on gas? At least once I embarrassed myself on this bike wondering what was wrong with too little gas.

+1 there, it was my first day out riding the thing. The dealership failed to mention how little gas was in it, and I was doing about 55 when it shutdown on me. I swear it didn't sputter or anything, just boom... out of gas. I pulled off the side of the road and within about a minute some dude on a Harley came screaming up and pulled over to help. After we ran through some thoughts he said "are you out of gas by any chance?" I kicked it to reserve, and the thing fired right back up. He laughed his *** off and reminded me to switch it back to regular or I'd be in real trouble. Definitely an embarrassing first ride... but oh well, we've all done it I guess.

Sounds like a pinched vent to me. I didn't see water in the fuel mentioned mabey a splash of dry gas wouldn't hurt.

Dumbest place I've run out of gas was 1500ft from my driveway, bike was on reserve cause I forgot to switch it.

I am going to mess with it some time this weekend. I am getting he Kouba fuel mixture screw and installing it Saturday so I will look at all of it then. I am wondering about the gas being low. I sloshed the tank and it feels like there is plenty in there but who knows. I will post back what I find......even if it is something stupid on my part
