Default Big Bore side effects

Well now that the rings have been seated in, pinning the throttle happens occasionally. but now that has a unfortunate side effect..... signs of a slipping clutch. I change the oil & filter at the same time as the husky. That means way soon for the maintenance schedule of the kawi manual. Probably changed the oil/filter 7 times in 1300+ miles (3 times in the first 250 mi.). Husky gets spectro & klx350 gets maxima/fram 6015.
Any stronger clutch springs suggested that can be swapped in? I remember running cr500 springs in the 250r

How old is your bike...or at least about how many miles on your clutch? Kawasaki clutches are generally a bit more rugged than that, and from the horsepower and torque figures I've seen on the 351, I'd think the stock clutch should be more than adequate...but maybe not. We're only talking about a few more ponies and torque. What's your riding like for where and how you ride?

Mine started slipping a while back too. Got an EBC clutch kit with the stiffer springs, no more slipping.. Got it off ebay for like $70 shipped.

Good luck.

When I got my 340 kit, Thumper Racing included a set of heavy duty clutch springs. I kept the stock plates and just installed the new springs. I've put over 4K miles on since then, all offroad, and the stock clutch is still fine. YMMV

I'd measure the thickness of your friction discs and check the condition of your clutch plates for burning, flatness, scoring, and thickness then measure the free length of your springs. If your clutch was already worn the extra torque of the 351 kit probably pushed it over the edge. I doubt that if your clutch was in good shape the 351 kit would cause the slippage problem. I'm pretty sure it's the same unit that is on the 300. Also make sure the cable is lubed and adjusted and the clutch is adjusted properly and your using the correct type of oil. Good luck.

Sounds like a good idea. I notice for example that EBC springs that have an increased tension are only about $15-$20. Freakin' OEM clutch plates are about $10-$12 each. Maybe cheap insurance.

Wow, how many miles on your '09? I've got about 1500 miles on mine with the BB kit and I haven't noticed any clutch slippage.

I checked its about 1342 mi. showing, purchased the klx 6/08. The wife weighs 120+...when I was checking the plug color it felt like it was slipping. I feel better springs would do the job. Hopefully the plates aren't bad off, since I don't let it slip if I feel it.

is this your bike, or the wife's bike? is she slipping the clutch for the last 1342 miles?
Not to say she doesn't know how to use a clutch but all the info may not be given here.
Did she learn to ride on this bike?
etc.....
