True, but think about heat tranfer through that thin coating from aluminum piston and rings to aluminum cylinder, and you'll see there is perhaps a better transfer than through the steel liner...or at least faster perhaps. But again...there's more to it than one element, like I said before. As long as the steel liner in the given application cylinder has the ability to transfer the heat effectively, this shouldn't be any kind of a show stopper.

As to internet BS, hey, it's just an interesting discussion with some facts and some conjecture on our part. Nothing wrong with that. Unless we're talking about oil filter positioning, and then all bets are off.

 

This is all in good fun, you guys can argue this to death if you want, but getting down to heat transfers just puts me in WTF mode and then i just go get on my bike and ride.... lol. I recently bought a .308 rifle for hunting and i was doing research if 30-06 or .308 was better, same old internet BS. so many discussions about it... and in the end they pretty much do the same damn thing, the .308 has less recoil. Just saying....

hahaha, 270 or 243 for 300yrds, 308 for 600yds, 7mm at 1000yds.

I have not heard of any overheating issues yet with the bore kits for the 250. Nor have I heard about premature wear to rings or pistons for either of the kits. So it would come to to how much money do I have and go with it if weight was or not an issue...then that would be part of the equation as well.

 

Yup. 270 is just fine for me. I'm blind and have the darndest time spotting game. Some got it, I don't. No need at all for 500 or 1000 yd shots. I think the furthest shot I've taken was 200 yards. I do hit what I pull the trigger on.

I think one guy on ADV claimed an overheat on the 351. It was the one TNC found and updated us here. But I'm not convinced that was the only problem - IIRC it sounds like he may have been doing long high-speed highway miles and lost some coolant. Otherwise, spot on!

 

Just got rid of a Remington 270. POS model 710. Ordered a Ruger M77 Hawkeye. 308 in stainless steel with synthetic stock. Excited to get it.
