Best hand guards for KLX250S ?
I need some advice on the best hand guards that offer the best protection on my wifes KLS250S? The stock ones are pretty but not very strong

I opted for the Aceribis Ralley Pro's. I like them, they have more protection in that they wrap around from the bar, inside the grip, to the bar end, using an aluminum metal bar, inside the matching green plastic. Great guard. The only issue that I believe the stock bars have a solid tip in the ends, and the Acerbis model (like most I think) require an attachment to fit inside the end of the bar. I installed a set of Pro Tapers, as I had also heard the stock bars weren't the strongest. Not sure what options you have if you don't want to replace the bars, maybe cutting/drilling - sounds sketchy to me though. Good luck.

The Rally pros are awesome. All you have to do is take a half inch off the bars with a pipe cutter and the plugs inside comes right out. The Rally's work great if your a beginner like me because I dumped a few times and the guards saved from any damage to the levers. I highly recommend them, by the way you'll need a hacksaw to cut the end of the throttle housing and some grease to get the throttle to snap back nicely. Piece of cake mod. Let me know if you have any issues, there is a ton of guys on this site that will help out with pictures and everything. L8R

Yes, I do recall having to do a simple cutting of the end of the throttle tube, and the rubbing (for me) was nothing more than the end of the grip up against the inside of the gaurd. Quick work with a razor blade and that was solved.
The green look really good, but I almost wish I had gone with black, and then black out the rest of the plastic for that "mad max" look...

Don't cut your bars!! All you have to do is take a 5/8 drill bit and drill out the weights and then take a dremel tool and smooth it out. The Acerbis Rally Pro Hand guards are so strong its amazing. I installed a blue set on the wife's bike and it has saved the levers twice already, so I think I'm even on the cost.
Also the spoilers are nice for cold weather or branches. The Acerbis Dual Sport Hand guards are OK, but there is no bar through them. But they do have the built in turns, so I guess its just a matter of what you want.

I have nothing else to compare them too, but the MSR Hawkins have worked for me. I changed handlebars and grips at the same time too though. My bike has been on its side a couple of times and the handguards have protected the levers. I think that they are very strong and actually use them as a tie (hook) point when trailing my bike.
Thanks for all the responses
I will research more now that I have some leads. Also, special thanks to deej for clearing up the "don't cut your bars" part of it. Very important as that part sounded weird.

Looks like we are getting the Rally Pro's but I need to verify that "no mods" need to be done to the existing levers. I don't want to cut the ends off the levers or get mini-levers.Do the levers fit "inside" or do they need to be "below"??
