well guys its official... my bike is the only one to have this happen to it.... from the sounds of it.... p/n 13101 has a crack in it... and the gear on the crank that matches up with it is split... so he has to tear the motor down completely like nothing else to take apart tear down.... and he told me that kawi said the only other major problem is someones timing chain coming off..... sullydirt.... sounds like you.... so me and you are at the top of the broke list!!!!! if your gonna do it, do it good! so he has to finish tearing it down and wait for the parts and put her back to gether.... its the only known instance where this happened on this bike model.. besides sullydirts timing chain issue... it was kinda funny hearing him tell me about it.... lol...i was like yea i know all about it..... hehe.... so there is the scoop... so im guessing im still looking at another week and half....[:@][:@]

That's interesting, the service manager at my shop wasn't aware of any problems with the KLX. Maybe, after he talks to Kawasaki today, they will inform him of other related problems.

You guys are scaring me, I bought the KLX because of low maint. I could have bought a TE250 and had a different bike. Updates please.
Hi FM,

It seems like our problems are isolated, I have 2600 miles, and I know there are KLX's with 7k or more without a problem.

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Given that this motor has been in service mostly unchanged for 10 years, I'm betting this isn't the first time that any of this stuff has happened. FWIW, the engine has a very good reputation for longevity when not pushed to the extreme (i.e. raced at high RPM).

Sullydirt,

I understand you have a pumper carb installed on your machine.

How are you finding it? Are you happy with it? Cost?

Maverick,

I'm not sure where that came from, but I know that Sullydirt does NOT have a pumper carb installed on his bike.

Believe me, if he did, I would know. We ride together.

OK i just got back from the shop, had to drop off my owners card and ins card..... needs inspected too..... i was right... that gear 13101 split right down the middle, it didnt make 2 pieces each that are half the gear, it actually split right down the teeth making 2 full gears, the mechanic thaught it was two side by side, then looking into it further its supposed to be one gear... how crazy is that... the mechanic said he has never seen that happen before... so he will have it all ripped apart tommorrow and order the parts, then i SHOULD have it back by the end of next week....

That's some crazy bum luck, man. Hope that's the only gremlin and you get it back soon and it tip top working shape. I hear those mud holes up there in PA are getting lonely.

Hey ask them if you can have the part, so we can see it close up. Also quit riding your bike like its a dirt bike.......oh wait it is. Never mind. But maybe it was all the muddy riding and wet crossings that did you in.....no?....... yea I didn't think so either.
