Default Auxilarry lighting,...too much draw??

I thought these H3, 12v, 55 watt lights were the perfect solution to add a little illumination to the trails. They are small, bright and mount directly to the bolts already on the forks.

I wired them the high beam switch and they worked GREAT for a few awhile (1/2 hour) then poped the 10 amp fuse.

I put in a 30 amp fuse and it started melting the fuse box.

Any ideas on a fix or am I asking for too much current from the KLX??

try only one. 110 watts does seem like a lot to ask of supply.

You've got about 140 watts or so to play with for the headlights, provided everything else is stock. I know the 10 amp wiring can handle a 100 watt bulb because that's what I run.

Perhaps you just need to rig up a separate wiring connection with an inline fuse and run it through your switch....always a bad idea to repace a stock fuse with a bigger one.

The only "electrical" mod is a high energy coil. I could run 1 light but the 2 fit so nicely on each side of the fender and throw good light where I want it. If I mounted 1 in the center under the stock lamp it would mostly just light up the fender.

You got 140 watts to play with...surely you can make this work without coil mods and such...140 is a LOT.

You could HID the headlight (35) watts ... then run your two 55s too....but you may have to wear sunglasses at night.

What about putting 35 watt bulbs in the side lights? Or slightly bigger if they make em?

coil mod was unrelated to the lights. I do think my bike fires up quicker with it. Don't know about performance because I did a bunch of mods before riding it much.

I've got silverstar bulbs on the way. Maybe I won't need the extra lights but
I liked these because they threw a horizontal beam and lit up the woods and trailsides W I D E .

I might look for some lower wattage bulbs just fer ***** n grins. Can't have too much light.

I got them off Ebay. I bought 4 sets for $10 per and no shipping with a "best offer" so the guy will deal. Don't pay full price. If you can't get a pair for $15.00 let me know and I'll send you a set for $15.00 inc ship.

Link: (long. May not show up)

If you trim the bottom off your headlight farring they snuggle up real nice right under the light. Drill a central hole in the bracket and they mount to the existing bolts on the forks.

A match made in heaven.....almost.

lol...obviously...ha ha...I'm off work for a week starting tonight, got ribs in the smoker and my girl is at her Mom's....PUI..lol.

Do you want/need to get rid of those extra lights? ...If not I'll just get a set and try them with a 55 watt main and some 35 watt bulbs....thats cheap for those suckers...decent quality?

EDIT: lol...you edited your post....I got no bracket anymore, baja designs headlight with vapor gauge....I'll figure out mounting...not worried about it....just use the forks, and fab a little stainless bracket.

Quality... I wouldn't put them on a Porsche but for a dirt they ain't bad. I was expecting less for the $$ but figured WTF for that amount. I got other apps for them besides figuring I'd probably need extra after leaving a few pieces in the woods from time to time.

The brackets could be better but they aren't supporting much so they're pretty solid and don't vibrate. The threads on the side pivots are typical threads in stamped steel but I think some locktite or an actual nut would solid them up nicely. I cranked down pretty good on mine though and didn't strip them.

The guy on Ebay got them to me SUPER FAST. I don't "need" all four sets right now but I like to be prepared.
