Something I discovered while towing big trailers with little 5.7 liter engines vs. 7.3 liter engines is that the displacement doesn't determine mpg, but the work being done. Our KLXs get crap mileage but about the same as anything of similar size doing similar work.

Disagree, xt225 gets 80mpg, rebel 250 get close to 80mpg, wr gets 70 mpg. These aren't internet claims I have friend with these bikes. I understand the differences with air cooled and electronic fuel injection. But still, 50mpg is way low for a 250

I agree. My last run I got 47MPG. My CBR250R got over 75,MPG my daughter-in-law's DR200 gets over 90. Even my Vstrom 650 gets 54MPG and has over triple the horsepower and an extra 200 pounds to carry.

Mine has exhaust, dynojet and snorkel removed. I've considered getting a carb rebuild kit to bring the carb back to stock to see what the difference in mileage is, and if I can live with the slightly lower HP.
