Default Ignitor box repair?

I recently got a 1990 600r. The problem with it was the ignitor box doesn't work. I pinched it pretty hard and the bike started right up. I'm assuming something on the chip board has become unsaudered. I tried to get to the board but there's this gelish black stuff covering it (I think for waterproofness) so my questions are...is there a way to fix this or do I just need to make a clamp and put something inside the box? Is it a common thing?

I would, but I haven't ridden the bike yet. Still fixing it up a bit. I'd just rather fix it myself then spend $80+ for the thing

Have to put a headlight and turn signals on the front, otherwise it possibly could be good to go soon that was another question I had that I forgot to ask. Is there a list or something of things to do to a used bike when you first get it? ie, clean the carbs, check/replace air filter, clean the chain etc..

well it's pretty much like your regular tune up. check oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, wires, check for leaks while running, over heating, tires, curbs, all that good stuff. oh and chain. thats pretty much it. post a pic when your done.
