I'm getting ready to install my DynoJet kit, and was going to do the smog removal at the same time. I've searched through the mod threads, and found lots of stuff on the older bikes, but nothing for an '09 or newer. Anybody do the removal on a newer model (2009+)? What do I do with the canister, and the separator, etc.???

AFAIK its the same. Remove hose and plug caps at the front of engine, on the carb, and on the airbox.

 

For what its worth i had installed a rubber cap on the vacuum line on the carb years ago when i removed mine. Well when i went to do the big bore i looked at it and it got hard and started cracking. I found a junk tiny screw/bolt and threaded it into the vacuum port, i used locktite to make sure it stays in. Way better than using rubber plugs/caps. The vacuum port is brass so a steel screw or bolt just a tiny bit bigger will cut threads into it and it will tighten up. Forever fix.

 

There's a HUGE charcoal canister that connects to the fuel tank that has me stuck... I think it is supposed absorb excess gas fumes before they enter the atmosphere. ??? More EPA cr@p... just what we need...

Thought I had the manual here at work, but I guess not. Otherwise, I would have posted a parts diagram of it.

Anyway, what do I do with that behemoth thing?

 

Take it off... I believe the vent for the gas tank goes to it so no gas fumes go to the atmosphere.... god for bid.... It shouldnt have any elec connections to it.

 

Any idea what I should do with the fuel tank vent line then?

 

Mine were routed down right behind the rear shock right against the case.

 

You must have a California model. No canister on mine.

 

I have a 2009 CA model and all the rubber straps holding the smog stuff on is dry-rotting. The strap on the canister fell off this weekend. The whole system is just begging to be stripped off.
