Another riding area shutdown
ORIGINAL: 2k1w=no$
This weekend Dave, Collie, Dave's son Danny and myself headed down the Lackawana trails to find a couple of miles in where there is a bridge crossing some guy locking up the gate that goes across.
. The land is owned by the state of New Jersey. I don't know how legal the riding was, but there were no posted signs. I don't know what happened for the locking of the gate. It just sucks to have a riding area shut down. There are a lot of people who ride that trail, and I am sure some of those people will cut the lock on the gate(myself NOT included and no one that I know). Hopefully the trails will not be patroled, because I am not looking to get any tickets. I am only looking to have a good time. Loud pipes save lives but also get areas shut down.

I will post some photos of the ridein the photobucket thread later.
We can all be diligent here, even if your pipe is loud you do not have to advertise it. Anytime you pass near a house ora person, slack off on that throttle. It is very easy to "run silent", there are times when, like the proverbial tree falling in the forest, that it does not matter how loud we run. There are however times when it is so important, a little courtesy goes a long way. Check out that ad on TV where each personwitnesses a good deed being done, and it compels them to reciprocate. Any time we come across another demographic on the trails or roads be diplomatic and friendly, make a point of it. Also, every person and their friends should be members of the AMA. It is the best accessorie you will ever buy. The monthly magazine will keep you up to date on local & national issues that affect our sport. They are also our only lobbyist, when the bigwigs see the member list grow they will have to take notice of our interests.
Vote againsteverybike foe, religiously.
It is a shame about the Lackawanna trail, it was very cool. It was unused by hikers, was really of little use to anyone but motorsporters. 95% of the trail was remote & away from homes. There was definitely an increase in traffic, and obviously someone took notice.
The locked fence will probably be "unlocked", it will only worsen the problem IMO.
There will be an increasedPO PO presence, with fines & worse!
I will avoid the place for a while in a wait and see mode, Jeff will be hard hit by the closure as he was becoming the "Official Guide" even the deer wave when he passes by.
Remember, join the AMA today!!!!!
I didn't want to make it seem like the trails were locked down because of loud pipes. I am sure it was because of a number of things. Fear of lawsuits is probably #1. I too don't enter areas that are phisicaly posted(well most of the time) neither do any of the guys that I ride with. I also carry out what I carry in. There will be other riding areas, but it is a shame that they were locked down. Like Dave said most of it was remote and the area was only used by powersport riders.
Is it just me or am I the only one who, if I got hurt riding somewhere where I wasn't supposed to be, not only would I not sue, but I probably wouldn't tell anyone where I got hurt. What makes people think they can sue land owners like that? That's one item in a long list of what's wrong with people these days. Lawyers and insurance agents oh and real estate agents should have tofight to the deathin a ring to be able to defend what they do. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:@] Then shoot what's left over.
If I got hurt anywhere, I consider it to be my own fault and take the consequences. It would be like tripping over your shoelace(that was untied) while crossing the road, breaking your elbow, and then sueing the state or townbecause you were on there road.
We had one of the best local riding areas around here until the local atv club started advertising heavy on their web site and it got overcrowded. One man here in town owned almost every piece of rideable land and 1 day a group of out of staters were riding the dirt road that is used for trucking gravel form a pit, they wouldnt move for the guy that owned the land and he had to stop his truck and get out.A couple of the group mouthed off and said to fu*k off to the land owner and that afternoon every entrance in was gated and locked and had an excavator there diggin huge drop offs that you couldn't get through.I now ride NH and it's too bad because the trail system was less than a mile away.So I now all about losing precious riding areas[:@]
I dunno, we think we have loud pipes, but you should compare them to some of the aftermarket pipes on some bigger quads. man they're loud. plus you got idiots just going straight pipe! yes i've seen it. its horrible. It sonds like a bunch of heavy machinery in a huge warehouse.
My place that is Maclean creek here in alberta is sure to get shut down eventually. google "maclean creek garbage" or "maclain creek may long troulbes" or that nature and you'll see just how bad it gets. I figure they cant shut it down because its all rig roads and stuff. cant shut those down or we wont get our precious oil and gas.

I quit the sand runs in the early '90's because of the areas getting smaller and smaller even though we were policed and tested for sound and still passed the db meters! Just the presence of dirt riders offend new homeowners in the new beach house.Loudness and traffic just makes things "justifiable" I guess in their thinking to complain.

i run a loud pipe... but have yet to see em closin the roads down.... fact of the matter is theirs people everywhere that hate to see any1 havin fun.. if it wasnt bitchin about the noise itd be the dust... or the trash.... or the trespassin... choose ur complaint. riding areas are clsoing left and right in alot of areas lately for various reasons... if i put a silencer in my pipe i highly doubt granpa sourass is gonna leave the trail open to his property due to it. its also possible that the trail was closed due to hunting coming into season... who knows. did some1 say that the trail was closed specifically due to noise? or just an assumption?

Perhaps, however loud pipes advertise our presence, run silent and most people won't even know you are there. Unless your running through their land or scaring horses or walkers.
