Default aftermarket ignition

Has anyone tried to contact any companies about making a more agressive ignition? With the growing number of these bike i would think the company that makes one would be able sell a bunch of these things. Or if anything see how many people would be down for a group buy and mabey somebody will make one. (Wishful thinking I guess)

Oh thought this was pretty interesting, thing revz quick

Yeah, that's Dan. He used to frequent this forum under the handle of 'mooredan.' Myself and another forum member provided him with stock KLX250S CDI's, so that he can do some reverse engineering. He definitely has the 'tools' (developement team for Intel Itanium processors).

He's been slowed as of late by an ACL injury, so I'm not sure if he's made much progress. The latest update from Dan was that his project wasn't producing enough energy to make a spark at higher RPMs. You may have noticed that the RPM in that video didnt go past about 7500RPM. Last thing I knew, he was looking into different capacitors and was using the stock CDI to figure out how Kawi managed to eliminate making a wasted spark during the exhaust cycle without an additional sensor.

As far an aftermarket CDI for the KLX, I'd say he's about the only hope at present. He did mention trying to market his CDI if his efforts are successful.

What about those old Japanese spec cdi's? Last I heard on here was they worked great if you could find one.

The CDI we get down here does have some extra advance 35o if I recall. They are available off the shelf from any AUS Kwaka dealership.
An Aussie Kevin Doyle ran a custom ignition set up. (I think Vortex here in AUS did all the R&D. Cost lots of $). It ran the bike to 13.5K RPM and with all his mods the 250cc bike put out about 40HP at the rear wheel. He had 3 bikes all together and the team did very well in the Australian Thumper Nats series.

That's not the Vortex.. I think the Votex would have to be special ordered now if they even make them for the KLX anymore.
