331 Squid Flipper strikes again!
Ok guys. I finally got the dyno run done on the 331 with all the stuff.
As a refresher, here's what I did to the bike.
Kustom Kraft 300 cylinder, bored to 83 mm (331 cc) Nicosill liner with J&E piston
Web Cams, Larry Roeseler Grind
Luke's Racing port & polish, machine combustion chamber, three angle valve job
Bill Blue Mikuni TM 33 Flat Slide carb bored to 34 mm. 140 Main jet, 40 pilot, Needle on second slot from top. Shortened pump rod .150"
Muzzy exhaust.
Stock, 14/42 gearing
Seat of the pants: Well, the bike rips. Nothing but grins. Easy wheelies in first three gears. Can get it up in 4th with a little effort.
Drag. I raced a KTM 520 last Saturday over1/8 mile. He won...by a length. If we'd have stayed in it, I think I would have beaten him. I hit 95 mph on the interstate and it wasn't done yet.
Here's what you've all been waiting for. The Dyno! I don't have the chart, but when I get it, I'll try to post it. He couldn't burn a disc or email data yet, but he's working on it. It's stored.
The bike made runs from 26.1 to 28.3 peak HP depending on jetting. Best was 28.3 with the 140 main.
Torque was very consistent at 19.5 range.
Max HP at 8000rpm. Max torque at around 6,000. The bike put out over 21 hp at 6,000 rpm.
Flip test, positive. I'm usually no Squid, but it got me today. I saved the actual fender getter, but did a face plant when I lost it on the recovery effort.
There you have it. I was hoping to beat 30, but it wasn't to be. I'm thinking that a good ignition system would break it over the top. I'm working on that.
The really cool thing is that peak HP was only at 8 grand. This means that it should stay together and it's very rideable.
I can't say enough good things about the guys who did the machine work. They are simply the best. I would trust Bill, Marvin, Luke and the folks at Web Cams with my engine any day.
Buddy Moore at RPM Performance Cycle in OKC did the dyno runs. He knows his stuff.
I hope this give inspiration to anyone who has the discretionary income to build up the KLX. It's a great bike and can't be beat when you cut it loose.
I just wish it wasn't so danged short. The Squid flipping really hurt.

wow, imo, that's terrible. sorry for being so honest. but really, with all you've done, i would have expected at least 30. i'm thinking i have around 22-23 with my setup. and with my light weight i would think that i'm feeling about as much as a heavier person with more horsepower would. my bike isn't a powerhouse, but it ain't bad for what it is and it will wheelie thru 3rd of course with the clutch. i seriously doubt your 28 horse klx will loft a roll-on power wheelie in 3rd, especially with stock gearing.
i've got the 300 cylinder in a box and have been thinking of sending it away to the grind. but after reading these results and knowing the extras you've done and only getting 6 more horse, i'm thinking it may not be worth it. i want some POWER, and i do not think the klx is gonna put it out no matter what you do. and the way i look at it, keeping it stock when trying to sell it as far as internal engine work will sell it easier. i want a 450, pure and simple. also, not to accuse you of fibbing, but i see no way you could hang with a 520 on any dragstrip and then say that you were catching him- btw, i had my bone stock klx hit 90 mph, no biggie. he's easily putting out OVER 50 horse at the rear wheel. you do realize the ktm's are geared very high and he was probably just getting into the brunt of his powerband with just the 1/8th mile? i think you may have wrecked before you raced the 520 and hit your head. sorry, just my take.

IMO Thats all cool... but i look at the cost to power increase, itisnt that great, Honestly i dont think i will do the pumper, i just didnt see that much of an increase for how much that costs... I can see the big bore in my future ( thats why i only bought the 2 year extened warranty) and maybe the cams... but that other stuff costs to much for not that big of an increase. But when things break or go bad thats a perfect opportunity to get something better hehe.... How much were the Web Cams? Does it have the ACR on it?
With power mods it is diminishing returns, that first 3 hp jump is the cheapest with re jetting and a pipe. To get the next 8 is exponentially more expensive. But honestly I don't think its all that bad, this was never intended to be a race bike and as such is a a bit low on power but should run for a helluva long time, even after the power mods so long as you don't bump the compression too high or get too aggressive with the cams.
If you want a 450 go get a 450 and quit bitchin about other peoples mods, geez.

Good work with the mods, sounds like it's the bike we were all hoping it would be from the factory! Have fun with it!
Were you running knobbies or street tires? Anyone who has experience with dynos will tell you it makes a big difference. I wouldn't waste my time doing dyno runs with a knobby on the rear.
So, I guess you're running about 10-11hp over stock now and your torquehas improved big time. What's better is you are making that power while keeping the reliability.
For those who keep making comparisions with more exotic bikes and MXers, give us all a break. It's not a racer, never will be. What's worse, comparing it with a 450 is completely bonkers.
