300cc first impression, ride report
Thats correct Deej. The 1/4 twist throttle is more precise. I had one many years ago on a Bridgestone 175 and, although a street bike, was a blast on the trails. I remember the 1/4 twist throttle though and that was many years ago. I think it came from the factory like that. All I can say is it rocked. I guess it would take a little getting used to if your bike has too much power though (like mine)

too bad the same old people are on here hating on someone just because they don't agree with their opinion. calling people idiots, wishing others would be banned all because they don't agree with their opinion is pretty sad. I never said your mod wouldn't work, I just said that the stock throttle does the same thing which is open the slide as far as it can be opened. To me it's not the latest greatest mod and since I think that, you guys resort to name calling and personal insults. That's okay, but just be warned that to the new guys, you are the members that they will stay away from.
"Are you changing the cable that actually opens the carb itself? If not, there is no way the vortex could open anything up quicker as it is still connected to the same place the oem throttle cable is.
That was your first point/arguement. That there is NO WAY the throttle will open the carb up faster. Yet you know nothing about the throttle itself, clearly.
"so basically you just reiterated my point. it does not open the throttle any more than what the stock throttle does. "
That was what you said to me after I explained what it did. I did NOT reiterate your point as because your first point was about how it couldn't open it any FASTER!!! Way to try to backpedal there pal.
Then you claim we hate you because you disagree with something. You're not even disagreeing you're just being ignorant to the solid facts. Take some of your own advice and re-read your first post in this thread. You were wrong, couldn't handle it then started chaning your words up.
Then you say you could do the same thing with your stock throttle by twisting your wrist faster, and that makes the vortex not worth the money. How about if you turned your wrist faster with the vortex as well? What do you think will happen? The same thing as the stock?
If it's so useless, why do the majortiy (if not all) who have installed it have good things to say about it?
Seriously quit playing the "everyone hates me because I disagree" game and take your licks if you're going to make bold statements that are false!!

Just curious though, can you post details on the airbox adapter you have on your FCR please? I've got a second hand FCR and the airbox adapter has a 40mm length and a 60mm outer diameter on the flange that goes into the airbox boot. I'm trying to source a new adapter but I don't know what size to ask for.

Bridgestone huh? Nice, see that's what I love about this site you learn something everyday. I never heard of that bike and now I know.

I guess here is my take on it, and since I ave not ever twisted on a 1/4 turn throttle then take this with a grain of salt. But we have all been riding on the trail or getting up to speed on the highway only to realize that we are not in the right grip range. And what I mean is that we have to point our elbow down farther than we should just to get all the power we desire to the motor. If I understand this mod, wouldn't it be better not to have to twist as far? I mean it would allow a lot better control on the trails by not being in the wrong posture with your right hand. Sounds like a great mod to me

what i meant was with my modded KLX, it will keep up with a stock 400 i guarantee it. i've ridden both and my KLX rips right now. the article you mention, i didn't even read it cuz i could care, but if some dude says that the old hat DRZ 400 with conventional shocks and 300 lb weight is better than the new Huskys he's smoking crack. now that's laughable. take a look at the new husky dual purpose bikes, they are state of the art. had i done more shopping i may have one of them in my garage instead of the KLX.

okay, i may have been wrong when i said that the KLX is technologically ahead of the 400, i can admit if i'm wrong. imo, the KLX is better suited for everyday riding on every terrain. it has a cooling fan for stop and go riding, but can hit the trails at any time as well. it is lighter and if i mod my 250 enough i bet i could get 60 ponies out of her also. but i would say that's pushing it for any 4-stroke dirt bike though, even RC's. but one thing is for sure, the conventional forks are UGLY, i don't care if RC would use them. i'd still rather have my inverted single chamber. i don't care how many chambers they have, i'm 5'7, 150 lbs so i can dial about any front end in for my needs. one thing that i'm sure everyone agrees on, the 400 is ugly and fat looking. the 250 is trim and to be honest, one beautiful motorcycle. to me, that sold it. i know any bike can be modded to run good and that's just what i did. my KLX really runs good with the BigGun and other carb mods. the 400 is not street legal, too big for most people and just doesn't do it for me. like i said, i couldn't get one to even wheelie and like you, i raced for years so i know how to ride. i'm glad you like your 400 though. i'd still recommend the Husky, the KTM's just aren't the bike the Husky's are, dual purpose anyways.

I never did like the E version DRZ but they are powerful bikes. I was wrong on that one.

Jeff - thankyou very much for that info, absolutely brilliant. Would you please be able to do the same measurements but for outer diameter of each please? A few carb shops have the adapters, known as airbox adapters, so once I know the specification I can order one, and hopefully add a forum post with details so that people in the future have a documented reference.
I'm changing the jets on my fcr right now
Yeah my bote is dirty..lol

The outside diameter of the carb to cylinder head section is 1 5/8" the intake side of the carb is 2 1/8"...hope it helps.

Stock.. 1/8 of a turn =1/8 open throttle
Vortex.. 1/8 of a turn = half open throttle = more gas for same throttle input =
Its hard to explain, The Vortex will not make your bike any faster but it will make throttle responsefeel better...
