I love my s. I was in the market for a klr650 but i ride alot of trails and a klr is just a big ole tank. Im not very big so didnt want to have to pick that klr up. I've geared my klx for highway speeds to be easier on the motor at 70mph. Its def the rider. You can offroad anything, you will just get some weird looks from people.

I can run circles around a lot of dudes on straight up motocross bikes on the trails.. My KLX does single track like a dream. 90% of it is the rider, not the bike. To the guys that say it is not good on singletrack - I welcome you to come to CT and I'll show you just how well it does

Also - there's much more that needs to be changed on the SF to make it an S. There's a couple threads on it.
This guy rips a little..

But you need more than tires.. I vote for 2nd dirty-dedicated bike.

very used to that, most the places i've taken the crew cab people with jeeps/toyota's are asking 'how the......, theres no way you should have been able to get up here!'

a 2nd bike would be for offroad only, no concern of being street legal.

ok so its looking like a 2nd bike is in my near future, any input as to certain things to look for? i've never really spent much time with dirt bikes and toying around with them (been a 3/4-1 ton truck and suv kind of guy all the time) so curious what to look for. 2 stroke, 4, best reliability, engine size? the bike will be mostly used for trails up in the mountains but will see the occasional trip to the sand dunes. keep in mind it wont be a new model by any means, price tag under $800

I used to take my 84 Ford 4x4 conversion van to mud runs. I got some attention with that thing especially since it did very well against people with Alot of money in their trucks. I got better traction hehe. Well I would just go with a good ole 2stroke. You can pick up a kx250 blown up for that depending on how new you go. Cheap to rebuild compared to a 4stroker. And you probably couldnt find a decent 4stroke for 800 bucks. Most have been beat to death and therefore would be expensive to fix.

2 smoke will likely be cheaper at first, but unless you know how to replace a jug/piston etc. it will end up costing you more in the end.

2stroke is a lot easier to rebuild than a 4stroker. After owning a bunch of kx250's i've fallen off the 2stroke wagon and would much rather have a kx250f or 450f. The power is crazy. I love my kfx450.

true, but like i said unless you do the work yourself, it will end up costing more in the end. 4strokes don't require nearly the rebuilding cycles of a 2 smoke.
