One of the reasons I love my sf so much is that it feels so light weight and nimble. Now that I have owned it for about a year i still love it and its perfect for my commuting needs (around Hollywood). But one thing I would like is more power specially since im a pretty big guy 6'2 210 pounds. I just didn't want to loose that nimble feeling of a 250 compared to a 450.
I just did some research and it seems all the motocross bikes kx/yz/cr 450s are about 80 pounds lighter than the klx250sf. Hows this possible? (im sure the aluminum vs steel frame is a big part of it) It looks like ill be selling my klx for a supermoto 450 in the near future...

 

Lighter by design, no battery, charging system, lights, speedo, electric starter, etc. Light weight frame and other pieces.

 

It's not really worth it to go with a kx450 imho. It seems like a badass idea, but why not just go buy a husky or a husaberg or a ktm that is already street legal and is going to have similar power, maintenance, street-ability and so forth.

 

Massive difference in quality of build materials.

Dry weight:

Husqvarna 09 TE450 246 lbs
Kawasaki 09 KLX250S 280 lbs

 

Less weight = MORE $$$$$$$$$$$$.

 

Remember that a 450 won't feel as nimble as a 250 (given equal weights) due to the greater rotating mass of the engine.

 

If the bike weights 35 lbs less, I would suspect there is not much more rotating mass. The reports I have read, the Husky is very quick handler on the trail. They are deeply discounted right now at a lot of dealers, almost equal in price of a KLX.

 

KLX MSRP or real street prices ? If I could get one of them Huskies for $3,600 I would be finding a dealership this afternoon....

 

Looks like a shop in Independence (200 miles away ) has some TCX511's for $5,500 which I suppose isn't a bad price, but by the time I converted it to supermoto I could probably get a KTM 690 SM for about the same price.
