Unhappy Blowing smoke

Finished installing 351 kit a couple weeks ago. Started right up, ran great (no smoke at all either)! Put 28 miles on it that day, then the cold weather came back in. Started it back up today to continue the break-in. Now it's running OK, but blowing loads of oil smoke. Plug is shiny black. Arrrg!

Blown oil ring? Any ideas???

It's been my understanding and experience that after rebore jobs a little smoke before the rings seat is normal. Especially if the bike has sat for an extended period as yours did.
If you are still smoking and fouling plugs at 300km (200mi), you likely have a bigger problem.

I think the oil ring is directional, sorry about that.

edit: The more I think about this, I think it is the top rings that are directional. Did the bikes power go away? Maybe one of the rings broke?

I'd hold out hope that it's still breaking in the rings. Carry a couple extra plugs and go ride it, like you stole it. It will either get better or it won't.
good luck

Way more smoke than I'd expect from break-in. Particularly in that it was perfectly clean the first 28 miles. Just dropped off at the shop, and have Bill Blue notified that I may be ordering more parts tomorrow.

. Not a nice feeling when a freshly assembled project does something you don't expect. Good luck, and keep us posted.

My dad told me a long time ago... "just because they are new parts doesn't mean they are good parts" Everything is mass produced, every once in awhile there will be a screw up.

Just remembered another hint... when riding for the first time, the engine seemed excessively hot. Don't know what that means...
