Default 250 KLX engine

Aloha KLX fans. New user here. Pleased to be part of the community.

I have a chance to pick up a spare engine from a wrecked bike for $500

Any comments to know if this is a good price would be appreciated. I thought it would be great to have a spare to modify with bore kit, etc, and not have to stop riding while waiting for parts.

Currently riding 09 klx250sf, 2bros pipe and dj kit.

Default new engine

I bought one last year, an 2009 for $300.00 with 100 miles on it, still sitt'in in the garage. $500.00 is a GOOD deal for an '09.

Hey mauirider, welcome to the forums. My cousin has a daughter that lives over there now, she's getting married in July.

How do you like it over there? Good plan on the motor, that would be so cool to have spare to mess with.

Very nice photo, they are an attractive couple. Small island sometimes but I don't recognize them.

Riding my sf here is fantastic, there are some awesome twisty 2nd and 3rd gear places to wind it out. All very safe because there is no cross traffic.

Thanks for the comment about that spare motor. I noticed it and thought it might be too good to pass up, as I want to go 351 in the near future.

$500 is a deal if the engine is in good shape and you need a new one.
$500 is a lot of money for something that will probably set in your garage and never get used. More than likely you'll never need a spare engine.
Spend the 5c on the 351 kit.
Just my $.02

I have to agree with Dan. The KLX is not the kind of bike that regularly blows engines and it would take a lot more time and effort to swap in the spare engine upgraded to bigbore than just upgrading the motor on the bike. If you do your homework you can have all the bits you need on hand when you start the bigbore project and should be able to minimize the down time.
Thats just my opinion.
Good price on the engine though
I would be more interested in the rims off the bike if they survived the crash. Would be nice to have a set of street and dirt rims set up for quick swapover.
cheers Jim
