2017 KLX won’t start after it was stolen and hot wired
Hey guys. New to the forum.
my 2017 KLX250s was stolen and hot wired. I managed to get it back and fixed the electrical that the thief’s had cut. Problem is now the bike won’t start, it turns over fine but won’t fire. I mean I have had starting issues with this bike since day one but something else is wrong.
any help is appreciated!

Air shouldn't be the issue after a theft. So, pull the plug reconnect it to the coil wire, ground it properly on a foot peg etc. (See YouTube if you've never done it). Try to turn it over and look for spark (a dark garage helps). If you're getting spark, then it's probably fuel related.
For fueling (I don't have an efi) make sure the fuel pump is pumping (i.e. the relay is good and disconnect and shoot out some fuel to verify. Make sure the filter and injector is clean.
If no spark check the immobilizer circuit to the cdi or ecm, not sure how they setup the efi bike, but you'd need to trace back the wiring based on the schematic from the coil to see what's needed for spark.
Awsome mate thanks for the help, I’ll give that a try and see what I come up with. Definetly feels like it’s electrical, not getting a spark.
i have always had starting problems with it, I need to tilt the bike on its side and drain some fuel out and start the bike leaned over while it’s cold. I have read that the fuel screws in them are too small or something. I’m sure it’s due for a carbie job.
thanks!

Ah, I assumed the '17 was an efi euro bike. If it's carbed, guessing your in AU? Forget what they sold where.
In that case, yeah fully teardown the carb and clean all the ports and jets well. When reassembling, check the float valve and height. A well sorted carb should start easy even in stock form and the AU bikes carbs are setup a bit less restrictive than U.S. models.
I'd still make sure you're getting good spark, but not dealing with efi makes troubleshooting the fueling easier IMO (efi works well until it doesn't).

Sweet thanks mate. Yea I am in AU, I spark tested the plug against the frame and there’s spark forsure. It was soaked in fuel tho when I took it out. I’ll tear the carb apart on the weekend and let ya know how I go. Cheers!
