When i bought my second rear wheel for street/DS tires, it was from an 07 and came with the smaller rotor and I picked up a 09+ rotor for it off of EBay, BUT the rear is seriously over-braked for dirt use and klx678's comment about that struck a chord in regards to lessening the braking power (which is clearly more than adequate for all but maybe street slicks?).
When searching for the 09+ rotor, I found that the 07 size was available and for much less $$$. Now I will consider it from the braking balance perspective...

One other way to reduce braking is to cut out some pad. They used to cut a vertical cut out of the center of RD400 pads back in the 70s. Still sweeps the whole rotor, but reduced power due to reduced pad contact.
