I use 93 on my 09 all the time...

I fill it up all the way to the top and no problems.....Only problem Ive had that I now know about is there isnt a spare reserve tank....My bike was dying around 100 miles out of a tank but there was gas in the tank....Duhh...I guess there are 2 suck tubes in the tank..1 lower then the other..Reserve is more like an idiot alarm...

I'm not that green when it comes to bikes fellas A tank lasts me around 125 - 130 miles and the reserve needs switched around 95 every time.

Question Mumbo jumbo

I just got back from the dealership on my lunch break and they said that two people rode the bike and couldn't get it to reproduce what it was doing for me ....they said I must have had trash or something in the fuel line, etc....

good thing is they are going to comp the first service cost for me, that's worth 150 bucks.

Never had either problem as described but I did hit reserve today at 77 miles. 8300 miles, jetted and piped and flawless.

On the bottom of the 09 fuel tank there are three vent hoses. One ends where the carb vent hoses terminate. The other two attach to the vapor recovery canister (basically its a one way valve) that bolts to the left side of the frame under the fuel tank.

Pull off one hose at a time and you will find that over filled fuel will spill out of one of the hoses. Reattach and go ride test.

When filling the tank your not supposed to fill it all the way to the top. I think I read that in the owners manual.

you'd be surprised to see where those fuel trucks go. gas is gas. get the high test wherever you can and don't worry about it. i wouldn't leave gas in the tank too long between rides but that because of all the additives.

On choking to start:

I generally choke mine just to get it to start, let it run choked for maybe 10-15 seconds, then just let it idle a couple minutes. Not the best idea to race the motor while the oil is cold and down in the case. Down here in Lowsyana, its always 90+ degrees when I ride so warm-up time is minimal, even in the morning or after a few days off the saddle.

On gas:
I've run nothing but 87 octane from Chevron the whole time I've had the bike, and I've never had a problem with it. But its only because it's been convenient. I'm sure the timing is set conservative for emmissions purposes, and running a higher octane won't really make much of a difference.

DON'T OVERFILL THE TANK! Look around the rim by the cap, and you'll plainly see the vent hose on the lip beneath where the cap sits. If you overfill the tank and gas splashes up into that, the bike is gonna run wierd, based on what I've been reading and on the hose chart in the book.

The bike is definately too lean from the factory, and the first mod I'll be spending money on (and soon) will be the Dynojet kit and removing the snorkel from the airbox lid. I agree with whomever said it ^^^ that most of the carb-related issues with the '09 would probably be fixed with a rejet, but that's just my .02
