2009 KLX250S jetting questions
Like everyone else just picked up a 2009 klx250s with just over 900 miles. Bike runs terrible, previous owner lived at 6800ft and had the dealer jet it for 9000-11000ft where he claimed it ran well. Bike came with a DJ kit stage 1, FMF Q4 slip on pipe (I believe the stock header pipe) lid and snorkel are removed from the air box. I haven't touched the bike yet, but here some questions. 1) what is the stock jetting? 2) Where do I start my jetting at, I live at 5000ft western Colorado and the bike will mainly be ridden from 4000ft - 9000ft. Bike very hard to start when cold and will not idle at all with out the choke on, when riding acts very very lean which I'm sure it is.
Thanks any and all help appreciated

All your questions can be answered by Neonarc. He has recently jetted and setup successfully for 5K ASL..
Here is a link to his findings -https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...eet-asl-42717/
Notes: The #35 pilot jet is standard. You'll probably have to tear down the carb and clean every circuit and component. Be sure the float level is set correctly. Be sure the diaphragm is functional and not damaged. With everything functioning properly, using neonarc's setup should make you really happy..

Welcome ahrma.
A number of us with hard-starting bikes drill out the enricher (choke) to 0.018". Search around here and maybe look at the FAQs. You may also want to check where your pilot circuit fuel screw is set.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the great info. Plan on going through the carb tomorrow seeing what jets are in it, and then following your advise put it back together and see what happens......
This spreadsheet may help you in choosing the right jet with your mods at your altitude.

thanks guys for all your info, went through the carb yesterday and it already had the DJ kit installed. Pilot air screw plug was removed, 128 main jet installed, 35 pilot jet, clip on the 3rd setting on the needle so I left it alone. Just cleaned it up due to the possibility of bad gas. When I drained the gas out of the tank it had a yellow tint to it that didn't seem normal, so I got fresh gas and we'll put that in it and see how things go. I also removed the smog, and I have a new Uni air filter to put in it. we'll se in the next few days whether that fixed it...

The best power I've had at 5k feet is 126 main, needle on 4N, 35 pilot, 2.25 turns on the screw, with no lid and a FMF slipon.
